This one has a strange effect on me, It had me looking deep into my own palm.

If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people.

The Buddha's teachings on love are clear. It is possible to live twenty-four hours a day in a state of love. Every movement, every glance, every thought, and every word can be infused with love.

Thich Nhat Hanh

It must be something to do with our lifelines in our palms, similar to when we have our palms read.
After posting the above statement, I didn't think my statement was right, so I done a search and came up with this.............

Preparation For Honouring Ancestors.

Suggested activities and questions for reflection.

Set up a small altar with a photo of your ancestors recently passed on, or those you feel a special closeness too. Light a candle in their memory. ( Light one that will burn for 24 hrs).
* When you light the candle, recite the Prayer for Healing through Generations,or another prayer that is meaning to you.
* As the candle burns through the evening and night and is still burning as you prepare to tend worship services the next morning, you will find their memory kindled within your heart.
Prior to the worship service and the ritual for honouring ancestors, begin a memory book of photos or mementos of your ancestor. A home video could also be made with family members sharing their stories of remembrance.Spend time with family members reflecting on the life of this person.
* Look not only at the personality but observe how the family journey or struggle toward freedom or spiritual awakening was reflected in their life.
* Discuss how each person today is affected by the legacy.
Each day during the week of ritual offer prayers for your your ancestors, taking a moment to be grateful for all that has been given to you.
* Reflect on the following questions.
1) In what ways am I like this ancestor?
2) In what ways am I different from this ancestor?
3) What has this ancestor taught me about living my life?remember that we are taught by both positive and negative examples. You may have had an ancestor who walked a difficult path such as alcoholism or cynicism who showed you where NOT to go.
4) Do I need to forgive this ancestor? Am I willing to forgive?
5) What am I grateful for today in my relationship with this ancestor?

Prayer for Healing Through The Generations
**********************************
This day I open my heart and my mind
with appreciation for my ancestors:
my father and my grandfathers before me,
my mother and grandmothers before me.

This day I open my heart and my mind
with appreciation of my path and my soul,
I honor the paths of my ancestors
who journeyed before me.

This day I open my heart and my mind
with appreciation for the earth.
I give thanks for the gift of my body,
and rejoice in the opportunity
for awakening that it brings.

May my spiritual awakening
be a cause for celebration
in the generations before and after me.
Through me, may healing come:
in our family, in our community,
on our earth, in our world.

OM
PEACE
AMEN
